Triathlete Matt Fitzgerald takes the science of running to a new level with his book “Brain Training for Runners.” In it he explains how the brain regulates the body, and not the other way around.

Backed by research in exercise physiology, Fitzgerald challenges runners’ conventional wisdom by shifting the focus to a “brain-centered” model.

“Proprioceptive cues are images and other sensory cues that enable you to modify your stride for the better as you think about them while running,” says Fitzgerald. This enables runners to monitor and develop their stride with each workout, a significant advantage over conventional training methods.
