Weekly Trivia - Does Living Alone Promote Dementia?

by Clifton Flack on July 7th, 2009

According to a recent study by Sweden’s medical university, Karolinska Institutet, people living alone have a higher risk of developing dementia. The research also suggests that folks who are widowed during middle age and continue to live alone are three times more likely to develop the disease later in life.

In general, people living without a spouse/partner during their middle years also have a much greater risk of developing some form of cognitive skills impairment.

This is another good reason why it’s so important to have an active social life. Sharing your time and interacting with others supports and enhances brain training effectiveness.
